Palestinian, from Gaza; seeking Undergraduate degree in Pharmacy and is enrolled at Al-Azhar University.
Hi, I'm Asmaa Baroud, a 26-year-old Palestinian, still living in Northern Gaza, Palestine. I am Al-Azhar University graduate of pharmacy.
As a young girl, I accompanied my dad, also a pharmacist, to work; He could see my enthusiasm and had always fed my curiosity, answering all my questions about pharmacy, illnesses, and medications.
My dad’s dedication to his work inspired me to pursue a career in pharmacy. Unfortunately, he passed away when I was nine years old. His death left me with immense pain but also determination to carry on his legacy. Despite many financial and emotional struggles, I did it. I am officially a pharmacist. Without our main breadwinner, we struggled to make ends meet.
The ongoing war brought life to a screeching halt.. We are haunted by death, displacement, hunger, and disease.
During the past year, I was able to provide valuable service to my community. I cared for my family and neighbors when most of our doctors had to be in hospitals caring for victims of the ongoing war. I was their only resort when hospitals were inaccessible, and often targets of attacks.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t apply for temporary employment opportunities because Al-Azhar University refused to release my diploma due to the tuition arrears I owe.
A job during such hard times would’ve greatly helped my community and supported my family.
I need $5,000 USD to obtain my diploma, without which I cannot be employed. I hope I can get that with your help.
Why Would Donors Fund You?
Everyone has the right to education, in spite of their circumstances. We in Gaza are keen to continue our education even during impossible conditions . Education for us is the only path to a good future. It is the most powerful mean to change the world. I want to get my degree so that I can practice my profession, be an active and useful member in the community and have my own pharmacy.
How Do You Plan to Payback?
I shall help other students continue their education either by donating to their campaigns when I am in a position to do so or sharing their campaigns on social media.I intend to volunteer with edSeed and help students benefit from the opportunity I was offered. When I have my own pharmacy, I will distribute free medications to those who can't afford it.
