From Syria, Hama; seeking Professional Post Graduate degree in Music Education and is enrolled at Landesmusikakademie NRW.
My name is Nawar Hamwi, from Salamiyeh, Syria. Music is my passion.
I was a student at the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music in Lebanon.
In 2018, I won TAJWAL Grant , offered by Almawred Cultural Resource and funded by the International Mobility Fund Organization. The grant seeks to promote Arab Culture and the Arts and facilitate cultural exchange.
I arrived in Germany in 2018. I filed for protection status. Going back to Lebanon was impossible. Equally dangerous was returning to my war-ravaged country.
I play classical guitar and have been performing with a band since I arrived.
I have recently been admitted to Landesmusikakademie NRW, for a joint program with The Cologne University of Music, one of Europe’s largest music academies.
By learning the music of others, we reinforce our own identity. We learn to appreciate it more when we see it against a backdrop of other cultures.
Learning helps us with integration and assimilation. It creates a beautiful medium through which we can promote the culture we are proud of.
I need $2565 USD to cover my fees and related living expenses. With your help I can spread a message of peace and harmony through music.
Why Would Donors Fund You?
Music is a universal language. You can enjoy it even if you cannot understand the written and spoken languages of other cultures. With my degree I will be promoting integration, assimilation and harmony among various ethnic groups in society.
How Do You Plan to Payback?
When I graduate, I intend to organize music learning camps – virtual and on site when possible for German children and children from refugee background to help with their integration and assimilation into German society. Learning tolerance starts at a very young age. Music would be its language.
I can teach Arabic songs using both classical and arrangements for guitar with harmony.
Volunteer Work/Social Capital
I mentor one of edSeed's scholars. He is a Cinema student
I taught music online to Syrian children while in Germany
I worked with Save the Children and War Child Netherlands while in Lebanon
I volunteered with Jusoor as a math teacher for one year in Lebanon
I volunteered with the Agha Khan Organization and the Ismaili Council in Salamiyeh in data entry and refugee food distribution for 4 years while in Syria.
