Salam, my family

Staring at the keyboard, I struggled to frame a sentence that could convey the weight of the mixture feeling of being a survivor and being forced to face this colossal pain alone lodged in my chest for a year, but in vain.

A year ago today, my family decided to evacuate, fleeing the untold realities of sheer horror and terror. We were shortsighted, however. We naively thought it would be for a short period that we could return to our homes right after. Unfortunately, an ominous time was ahead of us all.

We abandoned the warmth, the serenity, the safety we once knew in our homes. In our rush to escape, we betrayed parts of ourselves, coaxing them that we would find safety and quietness elsewhere. But peace is not something that can be carried in a suitcase or discovered beyond borders.

It is no wonder we suffer the absence of who we once were. We are no longer attached to our beloved, my grandma stories, my uncle's smile, my aunt's hug, our setbacks, quarrels, misery, and fiascos. Family cradled our laughter, gigles, and shouting. It witnesses our sickness and happy moments.

I thought I will be forever saddend and won't raise again, then I looked around and I felt the raising now is more important than ever, I forced myself to complete my path and be a real dentist. This is supposed to be my graduation year, wearing my black and yellow graduation cap like any graduatees arround the world.

My university is completely destroyed but it does e-Learning online, I joined the semester, I studied hard and hard, no space in my overwhelmed tent, no internet even in the streets but I can tell you the internet can be a bit stable at night when the bombs get louder and the darkness of the night turned to orange and yellow coloured, no books, no labs, no dental practice.sometimes I get tired, hundreds of time I gave up but million of times running to get my head up.

Each one of my parents is highly capable and extremely motivated to extract hope from nothing, however my mom is sick and injured but still has great hands in extracting love and compassion.

Edseed my family: planted a hope and watering it every single moment to grow effectively in our hearts and souls. I am really greatfull to be a student here, I promised to not let you down and make you proud of me. Finally I have recently finished my first semester at my graduation year in dental school, I am about to be a real dentist. I will share the results with you, the most awesome and amazing family.

It's my second birthday during war, and my only birthday wish is to change my birthday or maybe delete it, what should I do; celebrate being a survivor or mourn my loss. Homeless, jobless and hopeless for almost a YEAR.

Two years ago today, , music sketched melodies of love and peace, instigating an irresistible urge to dance and rejoice. A year ago today, It weaves a dark, melancholic symphony, a reminder of death and loss, I lost my precious uncle and cousin, home too just on the same day.

Dear Islam,
For an entire year, utter despair has been creeping into you, conquering your heart and dispersing voices of loss and misery into your soul. Sheer sorrow and undying grief have etched your face onto the eternal canvas of adversity and misfortune. I know you surrendered to the eyesore of life, and you've become a smiling ghost, attempting to survive with no light left to guide you. I saw you the other day, shedding tears, trembling, shivering, panicking, mumbling, and muttering while deliberately relinquishing your memories. You, my daughter, are like a fleeting summer lost in the heart of winter, your warmth struggling against the cold, fading like the last sunbeam swallowed by a long night. All words of resilience and strength fall hollow before your agony, poor anguished heart. Home is gone, beloved, too. Hope is stolen, life, too. But hold on for the sake of family, friends, and life. Hold on for the sake of you. Hold on for the sake of my memory. Hold on for the sake of God.

I recently finished my first semester in dentistry at my completely destroyed university

Before the war, Gaza’s pulse, though uneven, carried the rhythm of life. We were immersed in the ebb and flow of our daily grinds, building networks, driving productivity, and nurturing the social bonds that anchored us. We dissolved our differences, bridged divides, and fueled our cultural spirit. Many pursued higher education, sought new careers, and aimed for a life that promised stability and sustainability. Gathering with friends and family wasn’t just a routine, it shaped our perspectives, rejuvenated our souls, and molded our identities.

Now, amidst the chaos, under the weight of devastation, that rhythm has been violently stilled. The streets that once echoed with life are emptied of purpose, and the spirit that propelled us forward has faded into an unbearable silence. The drive to live, to aspire, to connect, once so deeply ingrained, feels distant, almost alien. In the face of such unparalleled destruction, this loss of our collective spirit feels inevitable, even justified.

We are painfully yearning for even the smallest fragment of those days, to relive, or perhaps, to truly live.

Don’t know if I can make it, don’t know if I’ll break, But deep down I know there’s more than I can take.

Finally, I've made it—I've re-enrolled in my completely destroyed university to continue my education. Doubts linger in my mind, wondering if I can truly make progress in this world, but there's a quiet strength within me that refuses to fade. Despite the unbearable conditions and the relentless cycle of displacement, I press on, unsure if I'll ever achieve the extraordinary.

As I share this with you, know that just last night, I had nowhere to go, forced to sleep in the street. And yet, another evacuation order looms over us. Despite everything, I continue to fight, driven by a determination that outlasts even the harshest of circumstances.

I don’t know if I’ll rise or simply just survive, But in this heart of mine, I know I’m still alive.

am a fifth-year dental student, having achieved first place in my college with an excellent average. I am passionate about life and inspired by my journey to becoming a dentist. I long to escape the image of myself peering out of crowded windows, imagining myself as a princess holding a graduation cap instead of cans of fava beans and a biscuit.

The pride in my parents' eyes fills me with joy as they say, "You did it, Islam!" Instead of waiting an hour in line just to go about daily tasks, I dream of celebrating my accomplishments.

Education is my lifeline; I deeply want to become a dentist and restore smiles to the eyes and faces of my people. I turn to you for support, more urgently than ever before. Please help me fulfill my life, education, and dreams. Thank you.

I recently published my blog titled 'Life is a Hope: Ramadan is a Gift.' I hope my blog will capture your interest.

I glanced at myself tilting at windmills, panting heavily with swollen, tearful eyes. I looked worn out and sulkily soundless. I was unable to discern my appearance, terribly out of breath. I am not sure how deeply I felt, but I was definitely cracked and heartbroken.

The day of my birth, my entry into this world, marked by my first cries, my inaugural smile, and the first recognition of my parents. It all unfolded within the grounds of Alshifa Hospital. Every corner of its premises holds memories of me. Whenever illness struck, it was there to heal me. Whenever sadness or despair enveloped me, it was there to heal me.

I made a vow to Alshifa Hospital – a promise that one day, I would return as a healer, as a doctor. But I failed, and so did the entire ummah.

Now, Alshifa Hospital lies in ruins. My university, too, has crumbled. My homes, once standing proudly, are now reduced to rubble. The only remnant of my past is my promise.

Should I honor it? Should I revive my promise, despite the odds?

Being utterly incapable to envisaging the next day and how vicious it can be leaves me bewildered and disconcerted. The ability of keeping the body and soul together seems unfeasible. I have lost my control and compassure. I Can't figure out how to live decently, days appear to gravitate me to think how death is of a great deal

Being a survivor thus far proves literally nothing. It just is a probability that I might count on the word "survive" to continue breathing, eating, sleeping and running. It doesn't by all odds mean living or interacting. A broken heart, a devastated soul, a shattered mind and an evermore grief are all the actual synonyms of the word "survive".
If I chance to be a martyr, you shall remember that I cherished and treasured the time we spent together. And that every time I felt depressed or downhearted, It was because I knew I could have done more to flourish your life.
If I chance to be a martyr, you shall know that I adored living amongst you and that your laughter and meetings will always remain my favorite.

Last week marked a momentous occasion as my twin siblings graduated from university after a dedicated five-year journey in medicine and pharmacy. Little did I know that this day would arrive, but deep down, I always held unwavering faith in its inevitability.

Today, as we stand on the cusp of those five transformative years, I wonder how the swiftness of time's passage, sometimes like a whirlwind and at other times, in a gentle, unhurried pace. And just like that, it all concluded in the blink of an eye.

As they donned their caps and robes, my heart swelled with a stunning emotion. I broke into tears and found myself enveloping them in a tight, heartfelt embrace as if I were cradling a radiant full moon on a balmy 14th-night soirée.

Can anyone ever tire of gazing upon such splendor or feeling the warmth of their embrace?!!!

Then, like a harmonious symphony, the words "We hope you are the next" rang out, and I was moved into a reverie, Time ceased to exist as I too, donned that coveted graduation cap. My name echoed through the hall as I ascended the stage to receive my hard-earned certification. My joy knew no bounds, and my smile stretched wider than the horizon as I waved my certificate aloft. Then a voice, as sweet as the most melodious musical note, proclaimed, "You are now doctors," I saw my parents, their jubilant cheers filling the air. My heart danced to a rhythm that only it could comprehend.

Yet, I was softly drawn away from my reverie, and the graduation ceremony drew to its poignant conclusion. I may wander freely within the realms of my fantasies, but I cannot halt the ceaseless march of life at my whim.

Yesterday, in the sunset hours before iftar, I looked at the sky, how it prepares itself to receive darkness and gloom, with rebellious colors to survive- even if it is absent- its yellow disk begins to reappear on the morning of Eid.

I woke up repeating the Eid takbeers

and running to the balcony. I see the yellow threads gathering again as if imposing their beauty, so they revive a heart and smile at it, coming with the brightest news; This is alfitar Eid day, a day preserved with happiness, in which no one can think, even for a while, of anything other than happiness.

On this day, I leave myself like a bird flying around the country, “We Have On This Earth What Makes Life Worth Living”

I wait for a picture with my parents as if it was the first time that madness pushed me to be alive again, and then I declare the victory of madness at that moment

I whispered under my breath, "I can do it."

When my first patient in my dental life said, "Salam, ثلام" in his way, I realized how small things can change. After that, I started making him a complete denture.

I was nervous and afraid of making mistakes. This time making mistakes is forbidden.

Then day by day, I moved from Diagnosis, Primary impression, Secondary impression, Jaw relation, and try-in to deliver as a final step to the complete denture. The patient was satisfied, and my supervisor paid me a compliment. He said, "your complete denture is head and shoulders above the others." I was happy with the result. Then the patient said, "سلام" without any stammering. He did not say ثلام as usual. Now, he can smile and eat well.

Then I remembered my first barefoot on the grass after I got injured in the war when I was young. It meant a new beginning for going on, and this is a new beginning, too.

I know I am still away from my target, but with your support, I can make new other smiles that can change someone's life.
