Palestinian, from Rafah; seeking Undergraduate degree in Doctor of medicine and is enrolled at Kütahya Sağlık Bilimleri Üniversitesi.
Hello, I'm Jehad Elmedall, a 19-year-old aspiring doctor from Gaza, Palestine.
The recent October assault on Gaza destroyed our apartment. The rent revenue covered my education fees. My family - like many others in Gaza is struggling to keep up with expenses.
For no lack of willpower or perseverance, my freshman year in medical school at Zagazig College hit unexpected roadblocks. The administration blocked my access to exams. I attended classes for a full year to be told: "You do not have a name." The matter could not be resolved. My study plans were put on hold.
I refused to let these challenges hinder my dreams. I ventured to Turkey, learning the language and diligently preparing for medical school. Medicine isn't just a career choice for me—it's a calling. It's about connecting with patients, understanding their pain, and offering empathetic care through their stories.
My passion for medicine has deep roots. Growing up, I frequented my father's workplace—the hospital—where he was a laboratory manager. I witnessed the transformative power of doctors firsthand. This passion intensified when my brother Ziad battled cancer in 2020. Despite his search for specialists in Gaza, his journey was tragically cut short by an Israeli bombardment in 2022. That loss strengthened my resolve to become a doctor myself. The recent war in Gaza targeted the healthcare infrastructure. I hope I will be part of the Palestinian medical teams when "tomorrow arrives". With your help, I believe it would.
Why Would Donors Fund You?
I'm dedicated to serving Palestine's healthcare needs, particularly focusing on cancer care for over 2000 patients in Gaza. With support, I aim to bridge healthcare gaps, working alongside local and international organisations to create a comprehensive healthcare ecosystem.
I would like to be a skilled professional doctor who contributes to a holistic healthcare approach, ensuring sustainable and meaningful impact on countless lives.
How Do You Plan to Payback?
While studying, I aim to fundraise, manage social media, and coordinate donations for Gaza's cancer patients. I'll volunteer at Turkish hospitals aiding conflict victims, setting up clinics and providing logistics.
Post-graduation, I aspire to become a doctor and join Doctors Without Borders, assisting Palestinian cancer patients affected by the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Through surgical and humanitarian work, I aim to enhance cancer lives. I aim as well to gather healthcare data to enhance services in Gaza.
Volunteer Work/Social Capital
During my years in high school, I've volunteered in many school events such as the following:
1. First Aid activities: I actively engaged in diverse activities, supporting 7 lives through first aid initiatives.
2. Recycling and sustainability activities: I contributed to 3 recycling awareness campaigns, emphasising the significance of reusing inorganic materials in agriculture.
3. Student support: I assisted 10 underperforming students, enhancing their English and math skills. Further, I conducted chemistry sessions online for peers, teaching theory and practical experiments for an extensive number of sessions.
