Syrian, from Idlib; seeking Undergraduate degree in Clinical Pharmacy and is enrolled at Lebanese University.
I am Mouamena Mallisho, a 19-year-old Syrian refugee in Lebanon, From Ma'arret Al-Nouoman, Idlib, Syria.
I am seeking an undergraduate degree in Bio Chemistry and am enrolled at the Lebanese University. I am the only girl in my family who made it to college.
Neither my parents nor their immediate family members had college degrees. But this precisely is the reason why they insisted that we pursue our education.
When we arrived in Lebanon, we did not only suffer the trauma of displacement. We had to deal with an unwelcoming environment that bordered on open racism. I believe that we mostly fear things we are ignorant about. I wanted to fight ignorance and prejudice by demonstrating that we are all created equal. It became my personal challenge.
I fought this environment back by proving myself. I ranked first among my classmates.
As time passed, the walls of hostility crumbled down. My Lebanese friends opened up to me. We learn, volunteer and work together. We became best friends.
My grades qualified me to register in the science track. I fell in love with Biochemistry.
I am a sophomore now. A hard earned competition that opened the door to training at the AUB confirmed that this is the field I want to dedicate my efforts to.
I hope you can support my bid for higher education.
Why Would Donors Fund You?
I hope to be able to develop treatments to non-communicable and chronic diseases.
By focusing on stem cell research, I can follow my dream to find cures to Cancer and Diabetes, including more affordable and less harmful treatments that have less detrimental side effects. .
Without your help, my dream of joining the ranks of women scientists in the Arab region will be elusive.
How Do You Plan to Payback?
•When I graduate and start my work in the chemical industry and pharmacology, I will help as many students as possible to complete their education and become what they want.
•I will volunteer to teach chemistry and biology for free
•When I open my labs, I will give high school students access to my labs to train. While aiming to achieve gender balance, priority will be given to women in science.
•I hope to be one of the edSeed donors in the future and help students as I am being helped right now.
