Syrian, from Aleppo; seeking Undergraduate degree in Physics and is enrolled at Califronia Institute of Technology.
“Mustafa! The binoculars are terrific. They have a green tint, just like in video games!”
I excitedly told my brother while peering through the binoculars left behind after a round of hostilities in our town, Azaz. We waited for days for fighting to cease. Schools had been shut down for months, creating a sense of loss that continued even after we migrated to Turkey. I was only 9 years old.
The struggle for a sense of normalcy followed us across the border. I had to adapt to a new education system in a foreign country and learn a new language . Despite my family's continuous displacement within Turkey, I did very well. I had a perfect score in the nationwide high school entrance exam and earned a full scholarship to a high school in Istanbul.
I have come to appreciate the nature of my upbringing, not only for the perseverance it instilled in me but also for how it made me value learning . I am eager to embrace every challenge in which I see an opportunity for growth . With your support, ready for the next challenge: studying physics at Caltech where I got a full scholarship that covers tuition and accommodations.
What draws me to Physics is the ability to model physical reality through computation. Reconstructing facets of reality in multi-scale and multi-physics simulations appeals to me as it offers solutions to diverse challenges. It allows me to understand the mysteries of our universe. With a physics degree from Caltech, I aim to specialize in computational physics and contribute to solving the global energy crisis.
Why Would Donors Fund You?
My experiences have given me the courage to respond to unforeseen challenges and made me strongly believe in the power of adaptability and the significance of community. Supporting me will help me thrive in pursuing my Physics aspirations.
How Do You Plan to Payback?
I aim to represent my country and raise awareness about the Syrian issue among my college community. Having navigated the US admission system, I also want to help students find scholarships, enroll in research programs, and pursue creative projects. Additionally, I plan to engage in youth initiatives and contribute to the local refugee community in Kilis.
