From Syria; seeking an undergraduate degree in Information Engineering from Technische Universität München, Germany.
I am Nuha Chuck, a twenty-one-year-old Circassian from Syria whose dream has been to study abroad since childhood.
Shortly before my birth, my father was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, making it hard for him to get a job and support the family. So, it was my mother, an electronics engineer, that became the breadwinner.
During high school, I was looking to explore more about subjects that we were not taught at school. That is when I found an educational site offering programming courses that piqued my curiosity. The courses made me realize technology is what I wanted to do; I enjoyed it, I was good at it, and most importantly, I had an insatiable thirst for learning more. So, I chose to major in Information Technology Engineering.
When I enrolled at Damascus University, I had to pick a specific branch of IT. So, I researched each, took a few courses, and realized the power AI has in harnessing knowledge about society's wellbeing, specifically in psychology and education. This realization drove me to wanting to pursue a career in AI.
In 2020, even though Damascus University requires no tuition fees, I had to take a gap year due to the economic situation in Syria.
Why Would Donors Fund You?
By funding my education, you aid in providing the world, sepecifically developing regions, with AI applications that use big data solutions to reach more effective evidence-based actions and outcomes, and factor in content that accounts for cultural and regional specificities rendering AI more representative and less biased.
How Do You Plan to Payback?
I want to use big data solutions to resolve two major outstanding problems in our society: mental health and relevant educational approaches. By using AI applications for social good, I will be able to incorporate content that accounts for cultural and regional specificities into the big data picture making it more representative and less biased.
I intend on making those AI applications free of cost in developing regions, where they are needed the most.
Volunteer Work/Social Capital

- In 2019, I volunteered with Damascus University's Robotics club by setting up the robotics fair and helping the attendees test one of the projects and demonstrate how it works.
- In 2021, I was a UN Online volunteer translating and proofreading the Gender Equality Seal for Public Institutions (GESpi).
