Syrian, from Syria; seeking Undergraduate degree in Nursing and is enrolled at Zarqa University.
I am Rawaa Alwadi, an 18-year-old girl from Dar'aa, Syria. My family sought refuge in Jordan in 2013. Like many children my age, I overcame the shock of leaving behind everything that was familiar, including a fertile landscape and had to get used to living in a make-shift tent in a refugee camp.
School was the run-to-haven in which I pretended that nothing change although nothing was the same. The only constant was my ability to channel my energy to excel academically and I did. I was lucky to have a mother who supported me on every step of the way.
I knew that I wanted to be a nurse from a very young age. Although my grades would have qualified me to go to any major I wanted, my choice was nursing.
I believe the reason I loved this profession are the painful moments and frightening scenes that the hostilities imprinted on my mind. I remember the sounds of sirens and rushing medical teams running to rescue the injured at such a high risk to themselves. They were my heroes. They were the only hope in an otherwise cruel scene in which no one seemed to care for the value of human life.
Having lived through the pandemic, I became aware of the dire need for nurses. That could be an avenue for securing a job whether here or in some other countries in the region. My good command of English and my native tongue, Arabic, would open up employment opportunities for me. I know that nurses are in high demand. I will not rest until I fulfill the dream of my mother who made sure that I achieve my goal in life.
Regardless of the difficulties I faced, I know that the best is yet to come.

My mother used to provide me with psychological support and raise my morale as I completed my high school studies, despite the difficulties I was facing inside the camp and with our living in a very small house that did not allow me to study alone from the family.
My family was very proud of me and happy with my success in high school, and I am very excited and seeking a new future that will change my life for the better.
