Syrian, from دمشق; seeking Undergraduate degree in Renewable Energy and is enrolled at Zarqa University.
My name is Ahmed Yasser Masri. I am an 18 years old refugee from Daraa, Syria.
My family arrived in Zaatari camp in 2012.
My father was an army officer and my mother was a social worker.
I have two sisters and a brother.
We had a decent life.
I had I a rare bone disease. I had surgery before coming to Zaatari. Without it, I would not be able to walk.
During my recovery from surgery, I made a small electric generator from a broken fan.
I also made an eggbeater from the engine of a remote control car.
I was able to repair a solar power charger.
I installed solar panels for family members and friends for free
I scored 78.1 on my high school diploma in Jordan.
While in school, I completed many workshops including ICDL computer, Hairdresser skills, project management, English, and Life Skills.
I volunteered with UNICEF to re-enroll dropout students in school. I helped NRC in organizing walking routes and graduation ceremonies for students.
I want to be a renewable energy engineer.
I have the talents and skills to excel in my work.
Our region was polluted enough during the war. We can use clean solar and wind energy to rebuild it while protecting the environment.
Please help me save my country’s war ravaged environment. Help me attend college.
Dream and Mission Statement
My name is Ahmed Yasser Masri. My family and I left Syria to Zaatari camp in 2012. My father was an army officer and my mother was a social worker. I have two sisters and a brother. Both my brother and my sister got scholarships to study engineering and pharmacy.
My family's income was enough to support us financially.
I suffered from Burt’s disease, a rare bone disease that made it difficult for me to work.
My health condition only made me more determined to pursue my education. I will not settle for anything less.
I scored 78.1 on my high school diploma in Jordan.
While attending school, I completed an ICDL workshop with ECDL foundation, Hairdresser skills and entrepreneurial project management workshops with UNICEF/NCR, beginner to advanced English with Finn Church Aid Foundation, and Life Skills workshop with IMC/UNICEF.
I love to play chess and draw.
I dream of becoming an engineer and specialize in renewable energy.
Like all other refugees, we had a hard time adjusting to living in tents without power and sanitation.
I am aware that displacement will continue whether because of conflict or environmental disasters. I continuously thought of how to make this trauma easier to endure for displaced refugees. Our region can harness solar, wind and hydraulic energy to cover its needs. They are cleaner sources of energy that would not harm the environment.
I hope that you will finance my studies in order to realize my dream.
Why Would Donors Fund You?
When I chose my major, I was thinking of a career path that can make a difference in my country's future. I have no income to support us, and with my disability, it would be extremely difficult to raise money while working.
I love to be an engineer. I remember that during my recovery from my foot surgery, I made a small electric generator from the motor of a broken fan using wind power. I also made an egg beater from the motor of a remote control car. I believe I have the talents and the skills that would allow me to excel in my work if I get the necessary training.
How Do You Plan to Payback?
I am aware of the tragedy of young refugees who want to pursue their education. I will mentor those in need and provide material assistance to help others achieve what I will be able to achieve with my donors' help.
Volunteer Work/Social Capital
I volunteered at NRC in organizing walking routes and graduation ceremonies for students. I worked with UNICEF on a back to school campaign to re-enroll drop-outstudents in school. I taught third graders English and installed solar panels in my neighbor's and family members' dwellings for free.
