Palestinian, from Gaza; seeking Undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering and is enrolled at Obuda University.
I am Yousef Abukwaik, a 22-year rising senior from Gaza, and a computer science engineering student at Obuda University, Hungary.
Childhood normally involves happy memories for most , but not for someone who grew up in Gaza. Three major wars are enough to leave an impact on a child. With all this suffering around, I found no other thing to turn to but education. It all paid off when 4 years ago I finished high school with a GPA of 98%.
I was the recipient of the SH scholarship in Hungary. It was such a huge push to my education. I have always had a special interest in researching and engaging with the latest technology trends and updates, and so far it has been the least to say very interesting to learn. I did an internship at Korostej.
I’ve managed to launch two projects along with my teammates, the first project was a currency importer from the NHB which we used Excel VBA to program its code, and the other project was in ABAP database programming language, where we produced a special query based on our manager’s request. I always wanted to come back and change the conditions of young men like me through a platform for the youth to teach them a very important skill: writing codes. That was my hope until a few months ago when a new brutal war on my city began. I still have not given up on my goal. I need $2500 to cover my living expenses in my senior year. By then, I hope I can use my IT skills to bring Gaza back to the 21st century.
Why Would Donors Fund You?
I am one step away from graduating. Your help will tremendously ease the burden of my expenses so I can focus on my education and my education only. With your generous support, I can effectively graduate and be of benefit to myself, my family, and my people
How Do You Plan to Payback?
I believe education is a very powerful tool that can be leveraged to my people. I am planning on providing the youth with a platform through an educational institution which gives them all of the skills and experience that I’ve gained in the past few years and more, for free! I will be funding this institution myself along with those who want to be a part of making a change to the tens of thousands of the youth in Gaza.
Volunteer Work/Social Capital
During my study in high school, I’ve led the Al-nayzak organisation volunteering project in my city, where I have planned, managed and maintained the project flow to help local farmers picking their annual crop of oranges, and to provide my classmates with a closer look on the rich resources of Gaza: the land, and the good people farming them along with their families.
In the upcoming months, I’m planning to volunteer with the VIP.fund team, I believe the CEP, Rasha, is doing a fantastic work to the youth in general, but specially in the Middle East
What Have You Done to Improve Yourself? Awards and Achievements
I am a fluent English, Hungarian and Arabic speaker. One of the added benefits of my scholarsips is that it was required to learn Hungarian and English. I took math and physics classes in Hungarian. I have worked as an IT expert for a top company here in Budapest called korostej and was able to gain major practical experience, specifically in project planning and management. I, along with different teammates, were able to launch tens of different projects both inside school and outside
